What a great site! I came across this site when we had dial-up and became impatient. Now we have DSL and its a breeze.

Does anybody out there know where to locate detailed underwater topographic maps of the Laguna area. (More detailed than Franko's)?

While its not obvious, I am assuming that you are refering to Laguna Beach, California. Remember this is a global board and there are LOTS of Lagunas around.

To answer you question, if you are looking for detailed maps, I would 'guess' that West Marine or some other retail organization serving boaters would have these maps.

I actually have an old map of the area, do you have a specific question or just general interest?

BTW: I moved your thread from Basic Scuba Discussion to the SoCal Forum.

Underwater maps are, normally not very detailed. The expense of making detailed maps of an area you cannot not see prohibt the making of detailed maps. Most nautical charts only give a rough idea and get more inaccurate the closer to shore you get (due to the risk in getting ships with right type of sonar equipment in close to shore to do the maping).

Try the following charts:

Eventually this site will be up and it will have the most accurate map of the underwater area. But again, it does not come right up to the shore.

This site has some awsome baythometirc maps (detailed) but they don't go into Orange County....yet: http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/pacmaps/

This one kind of gets to Laguna Beach or near there, but again, it does not come close into shore. http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/pacmaps/images/la-shd.jpg

Best way to see what is in the water is to, well suit up and go have a look for yourself.

WELCOME to ScubaBoard!!!
I'm going to have to come back and visit this thread when I'm on my own computer, I want to take time to look at Pasley's links.
Glad you came back.

You might want to pick up the book "California Beach Diving," written by the guy that puts out "California Diving News" ... can't remember his name. It has write-ups on each dive site and some simple maps of the beaches and reefs you'll dive in Laguna beach (not perfectly accurate, but good enough).
