For subjects 4-10 ft away, the ambient light is still very strong, so it will be pretty hard to overpower it. So for a subject 4-10 ft away, it will likely never be able to light it up properly. As wow said, it is likely good if you freedive down and take your picture close up. The YS-01 could light a subject well if it is less than 4 ft away.
You could be better off doing slight white balance adjustment.
