lol------you shoulda been there in the 80's-------but------saying that, '89 was my 1st trip there & it took me another almost 20 years to get back--& it'll be (if I'm still here :)) another almost 20 to go back.......(hate that XXXXed current for pick-chur taking)
 
I attribute the increase in turtle populations over the years at least in part to the protected state of turtles and the aggressive actions taken by the Mexican gov't to protect their nesting areas.
 
That and the locals have stopped eating their eggs and the turtles themselves.......due to the above lol.

I know it's politically incorrect to say so, but I ate turtle steaks on Cozumel back in the 70's and they were delicious.
