I have been looking at the C-8080 as an upgrade to my tiny Pentax Optio 4. I use their std case but don't have a lot of luck with the macro shots.

I was chatting by e-mail to an u/w housing supplier in Singapore and they told me that the C-8080 would be no good for wide angle shots. I've noticed on the Japanese web sites (I look at the pictures :) that there is a wide angle attachment. Given that this hasn;t been released yet how can they say that there will be problems?

The proposed wide angle port by Olympus to house the wide angle for the C8080 is a flat port. The flat port will not only reduce your angle of coverage, it can also introduce edge blurring and distortion. See this page for test shots with the C5060 through the flat port:

Thanks for the info. Do you think that the proposed Ikelite housing will do a better job of this?

Ike says the optional dome is under test and evaluation. If it is anything like the 5060 dome then yes it'll do a good job. Don't forget the housing comes with hardwired TTL with Ike strobes.

The 5060 dome:

Ok thanks, for the kind of diving I do I may need the extra depth anyway. Cheers.
