I've seen a few posts about Instructor crossovers, but nothing specific to DM. Is it fairly painless?

Hope to continue at some point on to AI/Instructor, but for the time being I'd be happy as a DM with my local shop.

Thanks in advance-

Tom

If it's crossover to SSI (as your thread title says) maybe this thread should be moved to the SSI sub-forum.

I'm teaching an SSI DiveCon class at the moment. SSI's Dive Control Specialist is a combination divemaster and assistant instructor. I have the crossover requirements handy, but you should know that starting in 2009 SSI will have a new DiveMaster rating (up to now DiveCon has been their entry leadership rating). I don't know what the crossover requirements will be as SSI hasn't yet completely fleshed out the DiveMaster definition.

That was a typo - I did mean SDI - inconvenient time to have the S and D keys next to them on a keyboard :)

I know there is about 200 miles in between you and Lincoln NE.

However, I know the guys at Heartland Scuba. We were all in the same SDI Instructor Trainer class together. They could definitely help you out. Good group of folks.

Good luck and congrats on your crossover.

If they can't help you, contact Steve at SDI. He can certainly assist you.

Best,

John

John,

Thanks, I will keep them in mind. I do have an SDI/TDI shop in West Des Moines - just did a refresher with them actually - I just thought I might find an answer online before I had a chance to talk to the shop. Call it impatience! :)

Thanks to NetDoc for editing my thread title too.

Hey TDiddy, your profile says you are PDAI and SSI too. In any case, it shouldn't be any problem at all. Call the shop and see when their next IE is. I think that's about all, but I haven't looked through my manuals. I am not at the shop right now. Sorry

EDIT: SDI, NOT SSI

Very painless... Take your current card and medical to your local SDI shop. They should be able to cross you over in person. If not, let me know and I will send you an invite to the professional level online crossover course. Let me know in a PM or email if you need any further help.

Thanks for your interest in SDI!

Steve,

Thanks for the info! I will check in with the shop and go from there.

My profile is actually correct - My OW, Rescue and DM were through PADI, and AOW was through SSI. I should add my SDI nitrox to my profile though!

Steve,

Thanks again - I was finally able to get in to my LDS and get the crossover paperwork submitted.
