My Wife and I want to visit Pensacola(4 Day Weekend visit), my wife does not dive but does enjoy the Beach. I of course would like to dive the Oriskany, any recomendations for a Hotel with a Dive operator close by? I've e-mailed the Dive the Mighty O website and have not recieved any response. Is there enough for my wife to do while I'm out Diving?

Any recomendation would be greatly appriciated, as I've never been to Pensacola before.

It's been several years ago but I used Diver's Den for a couple of trips; the boat left out of Gulf Breeze. Don't know if they are still in business...can't find their website anymore.

As for hotel, I stayed with relatives so can't help on that.

I think that website is a great idea that never panned out.

Which weekend? This time of year getting boat charters is tricky. A lot of the larger boats don't run and the smaller boats tend to get chartered in full.

There are a number of charters that go out there. I've used MBT (850-455-7702) and friends have used Scuba Shack (850-433-4319), both are just south of Pensacola downtown. MBT is near the Naval Air Station. There are two places I know of near there to stay, Ashton Inn Suites and Suburban Inn, less than a mile from MBT. Capt. Ron (850-455-7702, boat Sea Sherpa) and Capt. Dave (850-944-3314, boat Y-Knot) also run out of Pensacola. There are also charters that run out of Gulf Shores, about an hour west of Pensacola, such as Capt. Gary at Gulf Divers (251-968-4279).

You also have beach dives, jetties dives, and spring dives nearby or within an hour or two.

We are thinking maybe Mid Nov. to Mid Dec. Thank you for all the phone numbers, I'll be contacting a few.

Warm water abounds in the Gulf of Mexico. Check out my website when you have a few minutes. You can book your flights, rental cars, and hotels, and get links to local dive ops, plus get local conditions, etc...
