  • Dual Wrecks - great dive but access is very limited - Long Branch NJ
  • Malta - Belmar NJ - not much of a wreck
  • Allenhurst Jetty - Allenhurst NJ - easy access
  • Lizzie H. Brayton - Point Pleasant NJ - dont know
  • Bluffs Wreck - Bayhead NJ - dont know
  • Pliiny Wreck - Deal NJ - Deal is tough on diving
  • Western World Wreck - Spring Lake NJ - need written permission
  • Old Ponquogue Bridge - Hamptons LI - Good dive from what I hear

Maybe we could pick a site and do some research - Maclearie is good but it might be time to try a new site...
Knowing that Sunfish Pond is also on the list :D

I would like to try dual wrecks or Allenhurst jetty. I want to see how the parking situation at the dual wreck is in the next week or so. Are we going to have to get creative like with the sunfish pond dive?

May need permission but need to discuss - a few years back some divers abused the privilege so we may need to do some homework on permission from the church...

I talked to the head life guard out by pliny. He said as long as it's not red flagged on the beach, we can do a shore dive there.

Be wary of Deal without written permission:

Borough of Deal

6-4 Bathing in Unprotected Waters

6-4.1 Prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to swim or bathe in the waters off or bounding the borough except at a protected beach.

6-4.2 Definitions. For the purposes of this section, a protected beach is defined as one which has the following equipment and personnel:

a. Two parallel lines of sound, serviceable and strong manila or hemp rope, not less than one inch in diameter, anchored at some point above high water. Such lines shall be made to extend as far into the surf as bathing is ordinarily safe for persons who are not expert in swimming, and, at such points of safety, shall be anchored and buoyed. Such points shall be at least far enough seaward so that at low tide the depth of the water at such points is at least five feet. Such lines shall be such distance apart so as to provide and identify the space set apart for such bathing and swimming.

b. Shall have, available for use, within 25 feet of the water's edge, a life boat not less than ten feet long and equipped with one or more sets of oars and oarlocks and shall have available for use at least one life ring buoy or life preserver attached to a life line consisting of nylon, manila or hemp rope not less than one-quarter inch in diameter, and not less than one hundred feet in length, which shall be kept properly coiled in such boat so as to be capable of being freely thrown. Such life boat shall be of sturdy construction and of such type as to be suitable for use in the surf.

c. A duly qualified lifeguard, who shall be an expert swimmer, who shall be in constant and watchful attendance upon the bathers and swimmers and who shall give assistance to or rescue bathers and swimmers who may be in danger or distress.

6-4.3 Protected Beaches. For the purposes of this section, the Phillips Avenue Pavilion and the Deal Casino beaches, during the periods of the day and year when each is open for use shall be considered protected beaches.

6-4.4 Owner or Lessee Not To Permit Bathing. It shall be unlawful for the owner, occupant or lessee of any beach, or of the upland abutting any beach, other than a protected beach, to invite, encourage, permit or accommodate any person to bathe or swim in the waters alongside such beach.

6-4.5 Violation. Any person who violates this section shall be liable to a fine of not more than $100.00 for the first offense and for a subsequent offense, to a fine of not more than $500.00, or imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or both.

Borough of Spring Lake

A. No person shall possess any speargun in the area of the beach or the boardwalk at any time.

§ 114.17 Scuba Diving.

A. No scuba diving or similar activity shall be permitted in the Atlantic Ocean from the beaches of the Borough without permission from the Chief of Police.

B. Any person who has obtained permission from the Chief of Police to scuba dive and has produced the proper certifications for diving and who allows an uncertified person to use the scuba equipment shall be subject to the general penalty clauses of the Borough of Spring Lake. § 114.24 Jetties.

Bathers and all other persons, except those persons engaged in surf-fishing, are prohibited from going on the jetties in the Borough. I heard if you stop by the police station and show a C card they will give you permission...

I haven't been to the dual wrecks in years, but I really doubt there can be anything left after Sandy. The retreat got a new priest in charge and I met with him to discuss the possibility of having our dive club do a shore dive. People had been very disrespectful in the past by changing in the parking lot and parading almost naked around the elderly nuns. But after assurances that we would have the utmost respect for the solemnity of the site, he gave his blessing. Of course we never ended up doing the group dive. I don't know who is in charge now or what the feeling is. But an advance meeting, showing respect for the character of the place, and possibly a donation might go a long way. It's a fair surface or shallow swim out, but the wrecks were only in 25 feet. I suspect they were either buried or reclaimed by the sea during the storms.
