In a similar vein to the porcupinefish recently seen in Laguna, a buddy reports running across an ailing pufferfish in the surf at Escondido Creek in Malibu this morning. The fish clearly wasn't going to make it (possibly due to dropping water temps?), so he put it in a bucket with water and took it to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. Possibly with a more conducive environment it may come around ...

Which species was it?

Dr. Bill

Actually he just reported that based on looking at an ID book he believes it's the same species as the recent sighting -- Diodon hystrix, or porcupinefish.

I wonder if it was the same one that Kelphelper photographed.... that would be a pretty far journey. I hope the Aquarium can resuscitate this one....
