i'm not 100%, but i know you are escorted on the dive itself and i've heard there are monitors to keep folks away when there's not an official dive going, so yes - trouble.

I'd love to dive it too but I'd probably find another way to spend the $. Still though, it'd be pretty cool to dive on such a historic site, where such a famous battle took place.

Arrgghhh!!!!

I dove the QAR in October, 2004. And I'll be returning to dive it in September, 2005.

If you're looking for a "traditional" NC wreck dive (like the Papoose or Schurz or U352, etc.), then the QAR will disappoint you.

If you find it extremely facinating to dive on a nearly 300 year old ship that just happened to belong to one of the most famous pirates in history, then the QAR is for you. There are a few cannons and anchors that are present on the site, that are very distinct in their appearance - and to think that Blackbeard fired those cannons or dropped the anchors at some point in time, to me, is very cool.

The appeal of the QAR is knowing what is was, rather than what it is. And once you break down everything that's included, the price really isn't that bad.

Anyone been there?

Is it worth the ride from New Jersey to look at a smallish area with some piles of rubble?

If anyone is interested I have 2 spots for the QAR dives on September 20-22 trip. It looks like I will be working since the hurricane so if anyone is interested let me know. The boat will be taking Sandhills-Scuba out, great bunch of people, my local LDS.
