Question about Cairnes/Watertemp/Dive Shops

Hi,
I am off to Cairnes and diving with the liveaboard Nimrod II from Dec. 18th-23rd and I have a few questions.

1. Will I need a wetsuit or can I just dive in swimming trunks? If I need one, what thickness and what kind (shorty, 2mm long john - I could always use it under my 7mm).

2. Are there many dive shops in Cairnes (I assume so but just checking) and how are their prices? I can get a thin wetsuit or shorty in Los Angeles for around $75-$100 USD.

Thanks. Oh yeah, and if you can post quickly, I am on a plane on Thrus 12/4 to NZ first.

Thousands of dive shops, just take a walk along the esplanade I would wheel and deal see what you can get. I would go a full 3m suite have a great time. I did

Late OCT water temp 78-80

My wife and I did the Nimrod Coral Sea trip at the same time of year. Water temp was a constant 84F. We used .5 (point five) mil suits and never got cold. A cold natured person could probably use a 3 mil.
