Short answer: yes. If you stay, as you mention, in the overwater bungalows, there will be little to no mosquitos out there in the bungalow itself. However, if you go on land, to the restaurant or visiting another room or other locations which is inevitable, you will encounter mosquitos or other flying critters.

The overwater bungalows are awesome for people who actually go in the ocean. There was a large moray in one of the coral heads right behind one of the Rangiroa bungalows. We also had a pair of eagle rays visit under our bungalow as well. Too awesome. The Rangiroa ones are better than Bora Bora for example because Bora Bora tended to be a large sandy area so not many critters living there.

Enjoy.

I’m really looking forward to the experience, especially Tikehau given its reputation as a fishbowl. We’ll have snorkel gear with us to use at the bungalow when I’m not diving.😎

Thanks!

As the title says, will we need bug repellant for stays on Rangiroa and Tikehau (both overwater bungalo suites)?

thanks!
We stayed at Kia Ora in Oct 2019 - not over water. I don’t recall mosquitoes being an issue at all there and we even rode bikes back from the port area near the pass after dusk a few evenings.

We stayed overwater at Taha’a and Bora Bora and no mosquito issues there either!
