There are also apps. The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute has a fishes: eastern pacific and fishes: greater Caribbean app. Both are free. They’re not quite as comprehensive as the Reef Fish ID books but they’re on your phone all the time.
Downloaded this last night. Fish ID is definitely a weakness for me, so between this app and the video I'll (hopefully) get next week in the Caribbean, I'll be able to figure out what I'm looking at.
 
The trouble with books and apps is that neither is particularly waterproof. Especially at depth. So you can't use them in the "field" the way you can, say, a bird guide.
