I spent a night a Royal Davui Island since I was in Fiji and it was recommended to me by a friend. For a special occasion or just for a secluded and romantic getaway it’s definitely worth it. I was picked on time by the Royal Davui’s shuttle boat and met by the managers (Julie and Darryl) on the dock when I arrived. Darryl and Julie were very gracious hosts and with only 16 bungalows in their private island they spent time getting to know each guest and made sure they got full enjoyment out of their stay. As I entered the reception area I was greeted by the staff singing a traditional welcome song complete with a live band. The place is spectacular and well manicured. The staff are very friendly and know your name almost immediately. Customer service is the focus and there is plenty of attention to detail. All meals are included and there is a new menu every day with “made to order” fresh cuisine. The bungalows are well appointed and all are air conditioned. They all look out over the ocean through a wall of glass doors that open up both on the bedroom and living room. The roof also has a section that opens by remote control so a breeze can flow through anytime you want. There is local art in each room and wood and marble are the order of the day. There is a balcony off of the bedroom and the living room and each bungalow has a private “plunge pool.” The first day I did a shore dive with two other guests and explored the reef around the island. You’ll find plenty of pacific tropical fish and corals, which can also be enjoyed just snorkeling. The dive staff knew my name before I arrived and went out of their way to make sure that everyone was attended to regardless of their diving experience. The next day I did a two-tank boat dive with one other guest. The resort has multiple boats and can accommodate any group and any itinerary you want. We dived a wreck and several pinnacles. The first dive was near the peak of high tide so visibility was spectacular. We saw octopus, giant sea fans, lots of soft and hard corals, and plenty of schooling fish. The dive guide, Vilo, was very good at pointing out small critters and kept an eye on everyone. The second dive was through a garden of pinnacles that were covered in life from the bottom up. The safety stop on the top of the pinnacles was like diving in an aquarium. Unfortunately, I was not there long enough to dive any of the walls, but if they are anything like the rest of Fiji there is guaranteed to be plenty of pelagic action including sharks and Manta Rays. For those who are not divers, there is plenty to do including nothing…it’s your choice. Excellent (and highly accurate) review… The resort’s bar area is also spectacular, especially at night with the onyx panels being backlit and the huge trees around the perimeter. Royal Davui is definitely worth consideration if you are looking for a high end resort!
