relevant details for anyone who doesn't feel like clicking links:

It has been confirmed that some PowerShot S100 digital cameras encounter a lens error caused by a disconnected part inside the camera. In particular, this lens error may occur when the camera is used in certain environmental conditions such as high temperature and/or humidity.

Some PowerShot S100 Digital Cameras within the following serial number range:
The first and second digits of the camera’s serial number are any number from"29" through"41."

Affected products that exhibit this phenomenon will be repaired free of charge, regardless of the warranty status, if it is confirmed that the lens error has been caused by disconnection of the part inside the lens

I ordered one two weeks ago and the body number started with a 44 so you should be OK.

Mine died with the lens error after changing the battery at lunchtime and turning it back to check it's ok... No warning... working on the morning dives just fine.
Needless to say the afternoon dives were boring as hell... oh and i found my first seahorse in months! ARGH!!!
As i'm on the road it's going to be a royal nightmare getting it replaced/repaired... Waiting for an email back from Canon to see what my options are...
