Hi Everyone!
My partner is heading to La Reunion at the beginning of April and I would like to surprise him with a PADI open water course (something he has wanted for a while). Everyone keeps telling him he shouldnt go swimming there because of the rise in shark attacks. However, it seems like people are still diving and I havent seen any warnings about diving in La Reuion (just against swimming). Am I missing something? Is it safe to dive in La Reunion but not to swim? (I have scoured the INTERnet and havent found anything regarding this question).

I would greatly appreciate any advice from people who have gone diving in the area!! Also if you have any tips for beginner divers in La Reunion. Are the currents very strong around the island or are there good beginner sites?

Thanks so much!!
