I'm with Uncle Pug here. Why race to the surface?
Slower, for a longer time is always better--in most things worth doing.
 
During the last 10 meters/33 feet, gas expands to 2x the volume on land. Pressure also decreases by 100%. Because of this, slowly ascending especially in shallow water is being recommended. Personally, my normal ascent rate is 10m/33 feet per minute and 3m/10feet per minute in the last 10m/33 feet.

Safety stop has two advantages. It allows people to adjust their buoyancy (at the same time practice hovering) and eliminating some extra nitrogen.

SO WHY CHANGE AT ALL?

Of course DAN is not about to do that... would they?
