I did a few dives in Lakshadweep. The diving boat took about 25 minutes to reach a sandbar in the lagoon. We got off in thigh-deep water, donned the gear and slowly walked down the slope of the sandbar into deeper waters. For a newbie, I think this is the most comfortable entry, a lot easier than diving off a boat into deep waters. Builds up the confidence fast, especially for children, middle/senior age people. Any other places offer such sandbars for diving?

Boat ramps make good entries too. They also make good exits - easy to judge safety stops and such (as long as they're not real busy boat ramps).
