ScubaPro Mk2-- Black mushroom shim under spring- Is this just an IP shim?

It seems like some have them and some don't and they do not seem to appear in schematics.

Any insight from an SP god?

It looks like it is part of the T.I.S. on Mk2 Plus. First Stage

Click on name below the Mk2 Plus picture and you will get a schematic. Note that the spring is different also.

I think it's there to keep the spring from moving about. I've got a MK5 with a bottom shim that's completely torn and chewn.

Thanks for that.

Do you know what difference there are with the spring?

I just noticed the different part numbers for the springs but the pistons are the same. That TIS piston has to be a bit shorter.

Well a vinegar soak just proved to me that the TIS spring is coated with something that reacted to vinegar.

I guess that means that for now on it will have to have the good sense to stay out of cold water.

It also made it really easy to remember which spring was which, since I am rebuilding one TIS and one not TIS apparently.

I am a little confused about that. The pistons are the same AFAICT. Why do you think the TIS piston would need to be shorter?

EDIT: That sounds like I am doubting you, but I got these mk2's used and it is entirely possible that a previous 'underhaul' put the wrong parts back in.
