securing dome port to something?

That article really spooked me :(.

Using a 52 to 52 adapter and ziptied it wont really help I think, as the dome itself is still unsecure. Only way I can think of right now is to somehow drill a hole (OUCH!!!) somewhere on the lens, IDK if it's possible and seems scary to try lol.

Maybe drilling a hole on the far end of the shade? Anyone know if it will crack it or not?
 
you can locktite the adapter on the side that goes onto the lens, so it won't come loose.
