based on reports that viz was good I did a night dive at Shaw's..about 830pm. Surf was about knee high and viz was kind of dirty/particulate laden at first...maybe 8 ft but in the 'Slot' it picked up and the surge wasn't too bad in there either. The slot or trench or whatever was full of stuff. Walls were beautiful as usual. Eels and lobsters galore but no octopi. Lobsters are not as afraid as in years past and large ones are out crawling all over. Lots of shrimp and nudis on walls (esp Hopkins ? rose?..mini pink flowery shower caps)..the sand adjacent to the reef was packed with stingrays. Tons of small shrimp all over reef and i saw sleeping large male sheepshead. water was about 63F at 20ft. A good but not great dive..still pretty poor viz for Fall and semi-Santa Ana condition.
