Dang...Been diving that park since my beginning. Trained and certified there. I never knew I could grab bugs and not get a fine or ticketed. It is a great spot to dive, but I don't think that taking of game should be legal there.
Now a scallop or two as a snack during a dive is something I do every dive.

I agree with both sides. On one hand, he is correct, that if it is not against the law then who are we to say it's wrong, BUT on the other hand, with that mind set, we will need laws for everything about anything, and concern for others would be out the window. To me is seems that if we are more considerate of others, the less laws we need, and life would be better for all. If we could care more for our fellow diver (and man), and less about ourselves, everybody’s life, and everything we do, including diving, would be better for it.

I have already made some comments on this thread but I have to say that this was very well said.

Wow i cant believe this is an argument.

Bottom line, if its legal its legal. I personally would not take from somewhere like the park because yes it is a bit disrespectful, BUT, if it were/is legal then no one should say crap to someone who exercises their given right to hunt and gather edible critters.

Not every nice spot needs to be a reserve. I think the park is a good one, and having another at the west end is also good. Everywhere else is and should be open range. I myself am going to kill and eat anything that I deem tasty and that is within the law to do so, and that is the flat out right thing to do. God and my government gave me that right. I shoot fish all over Catalina, and I would really pity the fool who ever made the huge mistake of threatening me over it.

If its illegal please, report it. If its not, keep your thoughts to yourself.

Hunters...we don't have to take the easy route and take our game from places like the park just because we KNOW the will be there. Lets keep it sporting and put in the work to spread out and find our catch somewhere that isn't designed for people to view them.

Non-Hunters...stop trying to turn everything into a protected zone. You're making poachers out of decent people. It is our God given right to hunt, kill and feed on wildlife. If you don't like it, dont do it. But step aside while us normal folk do what we're built to.

See everyone in the water :)

Can you tell me which God that is, and where the information is coming from (i.e. bible verse, documents, carved in tablets, etc.)? I get the government part- it's legal.

And most of this thread is exactly about this one part of your thoughts:
that is within the law to do so, and that is the flat out right thing to do

Does having the right to do something make it the right thing to do?

Well the park is a marine protected area now so don't let us catch you hunting there anymore.

John

:)

The other day I'm at a red light. It turns green but cars are backed up right to the other side of the intersection so there is nowhere for me to go without blocking the intersection. So I wait for the cars ahead to move and give me some space before I go. Just as my green light is about to turn red the cars finally move just enough for one car to squeeze in. Just as I start to go the guy sitting at the red light to my right decides to make a quick right on red turn to take that one spot. Now I suppose that his move wasn't illegal but I sure didn't like it and it wasn't very nice. It's a very sad commentary that so many people feel as long as something is legal then none of the rest of us should care if they do it.

Give me an effing break... you've got 85% of the shore to take from. We deserve 15% (and actually more).

Wrong. Legal does not equate to right in so many ways.

Somehow I doubt you need the game in the dive park, or any other place suitable for scuba diving to survive.

I think what fascinates me most about this thread is that the entire argument is based upon the assumption that the lobster in question was in fact taken from within the park boundaries. However as of yet nobody has been able to post any evidence to support that.
