FWIW, the feedback I received on this thread has me seriously considering the XTX50s now, but I also don't want to make a needless purchase.
I would not consider them a meaningful improvement to the D3. Performance will be no better and their chroming is not as high quality as HOG due to UK regulations. They're fine, but I would not consider them an "upgrade". Send your D3's off to someone who actually knows how to work on them and you may be pleasantly surprised.Your insight on the service component is very interesting to me. I've had my regs serviced by two different techs, but I cannot vouch for their experience or ability. Now you have me wondering if that is the issue, vice the regs themselves.

Don't buy Mtx-r buy mtx-rc. Rc has flow adjustments.Tec Diver (mixed gas/cave) looking to upgrade my sidemount regs. Trying to choose between Atomic M1s and Apeks MTX-Rs, but need help deciding on which.
If you are in Georgia, you know Hog is HQed out of Macon, right? They are also serviced regularly by the techs at Divers Supply in Marietta. Thats where I took my Hog Reg Tech class with @LorenzoidI'm in Georgia now, but definitely interested in having you look at my set.
Upgrading from Hog D3s. I've had the Hogs for two years and they never completely impressed me (they were a budget buy while in law school). I've had free-flow issues with them, and other durability issues. Obviously for tech diving the last though you want to have is "gee I hope my regs are functioning properly."what are you upgrading from?
Why do you think these are an upgrade?
What made you choose these two wildly different regulators?
What other makes/models were ruled out and why?
M1 and MTX-R are very different regulator designs, it's a bizarre comparison to look at without any of the above questions answered.
