Awesome, thanks for the extra photos. I appreciate it. I hope to get out to Home Depot tonight to check them out. I only hope the specs aren't true when they say the empty weight of the container is 31.75 lbs. Wow. Living on the 3rd floor in a non-elevator residence would pose a challenge.

I would think 5 to 7 pounds tops... I love em' cause I keep everything (for the most part) in it and just grab and go when the time comes... May have to swap out this or that depending on the activity e.g. drysuit, different fins due to rock boots and such but its a nice tidy package...!

I got sidetracked, but have been wanting to reply. I found another suitable alternative that I thought to mention on the forum for other people's sake: Task Force 24 gallon tool box, which is available at Lowe's for ~ $45. Item #: 336429 | Model #:9124SR. It is about a middle size compared to the small and large versions of the Stanley units. I even saw someone at the local quarry using it for their own gear.

Try getting one of the Craftsman rolling tote toolboxes at Sears. I use one for my tools when I travel to different job sites. I even check it as baggage when I go cross country. It is well made and has a retractable handle. Check it out.

Ajtoady- Do you have a model / link? I’m trying to find a cheap and effective method for traveling. My main concern about getting a Taskforce or Stanley 24 Gallon box is checking it in. Airlines charge if the luggage is bigger than 62 linear inches.

I picked up the 50 gal Stanley box, I like that it holds a lot, BUT it is big and I have to collapse a seat to fit it in the back of my Focus hatchback. The locking clasps are somewhat flimsy (I could bend the locking tap), I believe they will be ok though. I plan on getting some lawnmower wheels (the big ones) and retrofitting them onto my box. I think that would change a lot on the off-road stuff. Thanks for the thread.

Mitch

ETA: I would have picked up the one that was 1/2 the size, but they aren't to be had locally, and the $55 IIRC was hard to beat.

I also use the big stanley box and agree the locking tabs suck, I am always rebending them to get the latch to close. I also cutoff the lid protrusions that are meant for hanging a hand saw. I did the dive flag repaint on one lid . I like my stanley boxes.

Might sound kinda goofy but I know a lot of guys at work use the coolers with wheels and handles on them. Not sure what they cost though.

Whatever works to get the kit to the dive site I say. I have used coolers to carry gear before. and post dive narcosis simulation devices.

These are trash!
My gf picked-up two of these just before our AOW class to Catalina & after our first dive session, we made a short walk from Casino Point Dive Park to the Buena Vista Hotel & all the wheels blew off & broke. The wheels dont have metal shafts, & are just intergrated plastic nubs, the plastic composite shaft melted & broke from heat / friction.... We just had basic gear in the tubs, no tanks or weights. The entire broup of 8 except for us, were using the Task Force bins from Lowes that Calvin posted above which also look very similar to the Stanley version. My instructor said he has had his for years without an issue, wheel system is plenty sturdy. They all also had a 90 degree plate bolted on the edge of the lid & bungy system on the other end to secure 2 tanks in the intergrated groove on the lid of the bin.
Needless to say the Plano bin was returned to Home Depot on Monday & just waiting to make a trip to Lowes...

I have 10 of the Stanley 24 gallon. I pack my student's gear in them and everyone hauls their own box to the dive site. They have lasted through 5 years of student abuse without any issues and all instructors know how hard students are on gear. When the class is over I fill them with water and simple green. Easy gear clean up. I think the Stanley version has been replaced with the Task Force at Lowes. Basically the same box with Lowes' brand on it
