Strobe for Canon G9 on WP-DC21

Hi, another quick one, it's been so long since last time I had a compact...

Can I use a YS-110a on a Canon G9 with Canon WP-DC21?
My guess is I can with the optical cable and optical mask, am I wrong? Why?
I got conflicting messages from different places...

The YS-110 Alpha is compatible with the G9 and G10 and can be used with Fiber Optic Cable or 5-pin N type sync cord dependent upon type of housing. In fact, Backscatter and other retailers in the US sell the YS-110a almost exclusively with the G9/10 and get great results from the DS-TTL.
