According to PADI, assuming the kid got certified through them, the depth limit is 40' for junior certified divers ages 10-11. In Cozumel, that can obviously be restrictive for boat diving. I'd think you'd be better off with your own boat charter that would stick to the shallowest sites, or else stick to shore diving.

It's been 3 summers since we've made it to the island. This summer we will be bringing our 11 year old son and he's interested in following in our diving "footsteps". We've dove with numerous dive ops over the past 10 trips we've made to the island. BUT NOW WE NEED ONE THAT HAS A GOOD DM FOR A NEW JR DIVER.... (which we have never needed to consider in our dive op choices.)

Please cheerlead who we should look into and consider. Contact info would be greatly appreciated :)

Friends of ours were in a similar situation as yourself, they used Scuba Du and raved about them in regard to the safety and personal attention they got. To call them protective parents of their 11 year old daughter would be an understatement so if they liked them that says a lot to me. Apparently the dive master really went out of his way to make sure their daughter had a good experience as she was a little nervous about scuba in the beginning. By the end of the week she was a little chatter box and you could tell she was hooked.

Liquid Blue, Instructor Hector Reyes.

Hector was a freelance DM/Instructor with LB and is/will no longer being employed by LB.

However, they do have some excellent instructors working with them as do most shops on the island.

Thank you all for the suggestions. We will be researching happily! :)
