A female diver died today after suffering a cardiac arrest whilst at ix-Xatt l-Ahmar, near Ghajnsielem. Friends of the 39-year old Swedish woman who were with her, gave her first aid at the scene. She was then taken by an AFM helicopter to the Gozo General Hospital, where she was certified as dead.

I am sure there are many versions as to what happened and the cause of the accident travelling around this small island but I also heard the buddy drowned and was successfully rescusitated at the surface. Does anyone have any facts in regards to this accident? My sympothy goes out but it is always helpful as a regular diver on Gozo to know how these incidents may be prevented in the future.
