In need of repainting tanks. (Aluminum and steel)

Will sandblast to clean metal.

Need recommendation on paint type.

Should a primer be used???

Marine grade or epoxy, or what?????

Totally in the dark on this.

Thanks -- carl

I haven't painted mine yet, but I just stripped one. use "Aircraft Remover" (stripper). It's works great.

I just got it back from hydro and it got visualed there. After the vis runs out I might paint it, but I don't want to have to pay $10 bucks for another VIS this year. (to scrape off sticker to paint).

see thread Recent Stripper Pics

Best adivice is don't bother painting Aluminum tanks, there is virtually no workable method to home prep/paint AL tanks to stand up to diving conditions. It also achieves no functional purpose.

Steels are a different matter, they need paint. I've been using ZRC Cold Galvanzing with good results...but I have yet to find a cost effective durable clear coat to go over the zinc.

Unless you want to get them filled in europe. There are standards there for the painting of the tank according to the contents. Air tanks are rust orange body with a black and white 'upper sholder'.

But who carries there own tanks overseas...

Please always use the search function before establishing a new topic.

We have two extremely complete notes on everything you need to know about tank painting, totalling over 200 replies.

The problem with not searching is that folks get tired of answering the same questions over and over, and you get less and less complete answers to your questions.
