for the sticky goo left over from stickers, try some plain old vegetable oil and a rag. pour a little on the rag and rub into the sticky residue, it softens it up and lifts it off. the oil can be wiped off with the rag. if you need to put on another sticker then a little soap or surface cleaner like 409 will take off any oil left on the surface.
be carefull with goo gone... that stuff will eat any clear coat finishes or paint if left on for more then a few seconds.

Ok the answer may be the same, but just in case...same question, but for unpainted steel tanks.

Damn glue from those MOD and mix markings on my PSTs.

same thing, use a little veg oil... takes the glue goo right off, goo gone will work also and won't do anything to the unpainted surface.

Same for galvanized steel?

yup, you won't hurt the galvanized finish unless you use some kind of blade to scrape off the goo or try to use something like a wire wheel.... even the strongest household cleaners won't do anything to the hot dipped galvanizing.
