Copy/paste should work fine if both applications (in this case, Word and your browser) are unicode capable, which most likely they are. The garbage above is caused by SB trying to pull the page title of the URL you linked, and failing to recognize that it's unicode. If you copy/paste it manually, it shows up:

When I just want to to an occasional common character, I use ascii code. Hold the alt key down and type a numeral on the keypad--not the numbers across the top. (If on a lap top, use the num lock feature.)

Here are some of the more popular ones:

é = 130
ç = 135
á = 160
ñ = 164
° = 248
