:mean: Personaly I like Advanced Diver , But read most anything on diving I can find. A.D. Is based more on the kind of diving I do on the Gulf Coast.

Dive Training and Rodales are okay. Haven't seen Advance Diving yet. I miss Aquacorps! Immersed doesn't come close IMO. Actually I get more fun reading from this board than any magazine.

What's the joke about the #18 twisted line?

Neil

TWISTED line of any size kinks much too easily and is more
likely to "come apart" than braided.

#18 is too thin diameter-ly speaking AND does not have the
strength of #24. When you consider that #24 is less than
two MM in diameter it becomes apparent that #18 is even
thinner. Need I say more?

Green_Manelishi,

Yes you do :)

Please tell us the tensile strength of #18 then that of #24. Besides the purpose of the line is not for lifting or going near rock, the purpose is for a marking lift bag.

Ed

My personal minimum is #24. Braided.
#18 is too skinny for me. I do wish I could find a source for #24 braided in the colors I've seen in the #18 twisted, though.
Rick

braided nylon seine twine ("maximum" resistance to kinking and
unraveling)

#18 ... 170 ft/lbs

#24 ... 250 ft/lbs

That 80 pounds could make a big difference.

And I repeat my assertion that #18 is TOO THIN to handle
well, to say nothing of its reduced ability to handle abrasion.

Lastly, and a change of subject ... why use a color other than
WHITE? Color washes out at depth anyway and white is the
most visible under the most varied conditions.

Strictly for open water in the daytime, that flourescent green stuff shows up really well at depth.
Besides, it's pretty and sez "I'm cool."
Rick

Hello,

Interesting. The #18 line that I have on my desk is rated at 225 lbs.
