The plan was laid out for the two days but all that has been thrown in the trash.
We were going to start out with our biannual PT test. You know the fun stuff like high jump, push-ups, sit-ups and the runs. The department gives us the option to run the 1.5 miles or ride a bike 5 miles in the same time frame. For the bikes we have to average over 21 mph to get the same time. Man, owning a recumbent bike business I ride.
Then it was going to be off to the lakes for some diving, Mexican food, more diving, more Mexican food.
Well all that has gone into the toilet. We are going to be near, at or below zero. Temps that cold can be dangerous so the PT part is out for now.
The tentative plan now is to go get better acquainted with our new team members, eat Mexican food, go over our gear and classroom stuff, go to the swim area of Hayden Lake and do some basic skills on the FNGs.
We want them to get a taste of what its like but not hurt or scare them. You will get wet doing skills but it is much better to get it now and learn where their limits are in near freezing water. We may even have to break some thin ice to do it.
Who knows, for now its all still up in the air, some mighty cold fricken air.
My recommendation is going to be that we dont all dive both days. Some will need to stay ready to respond should another idiot decide to park in a puddle.
Ill keep you posted on what we end up doing. Lane B and I are working patrol tonight and training tomorrow. That makes for 20 hour days for us which is the normal once a month during the winter. :eyecrazy:
