Greetings all,
My wife and I were just certified in May and have now been diving almost weekly. Our shop wants to get us out on a Lake Michigan wreck but I keep saying next year. I am not sure why I am so hesitant. There is one more opportunity this year to dive the Willie and The Dredge via the alma in 3 weeks through our lds
Here is my apprehension. Lake Michigan is well Lake Michigan. We have only been diving inland lakes and quarry’s. I grew up swimming and fishing Michigan but diving it stresses me out.
The two wrecks are not that deep, but there is part of my that wants to wait until I am on doubles or at the least have a pony bottle. As I write this, it really doesn’t make sense seeing we dive lakes and quarry’s without either of those two things. There is also part of me that wants to wait until we are trained and buy a dry suit but that doesn’t make any sense either since our deep dive at Wazee Lake was 39 degrees at 80’ with many other dives in the high 40s low 50s. Our wetsuits have kept us warm enough.
In the end I think I am just psyching myself out as I did up too our deep dive for AOW. In the end that dive was a lot of fun.
All of that being said, when did you all start diving Great Lakes wrecks. Were you nervous the first time. Any tips? Anything We should keep in mind?
