we used to have to plan for the slack very precisely when diving the tacoma narrows bridge...it's not so cool to deco while drifting quickly into the shipping channels...boat noises seem so close underwater.

Well, there's always Deception Pass ... they'll have whirlpools in there tomorrow that could eat a boat ...

Amazing story CD, and thank the good Lord you were there.

Is it that hard for people to assess the risks and make a good decision?
Is the temptation of doing something dangerous/not done previously that hard to resist?
Is this a young vs. older/experienced argument?
Is this an example of Darwin hard at work?

I don't get it. I want to live.......and dive as long as I can. Doesn't everyone feel this way?

I think it comes down to the often used saying "You don't know what you don't know."

JB is a beautiful area and an incredible dive spot. I'm sure the topside view is a draw for many people and the allure to see what's down there becomes too much for a few. They figure a quick peek won't hurt anything because they don't realize just how dangerous this stuff can be to the untrained.

My *guess* is that this isn't the first time at least one of them has been here. They went way too far, way too quick. I think if it was their first time, they would have spent more time looking around the cavern zone because it's pretty big and pretty cool.

In hindsight, I really wish I would have asked them more questions like how much air they had left, how many times they'd done it, etc.

Well ... if you go there often enough you will probably get a chance to ask them the next time you escort them out of the cave ...

Somehow, I think the next time they won't exactly be 'escorted' from the cave. :(

Might just be a different type of escort.

... if Jax shows up dressed like her avatar those boys will follow her anywhere ... might need bigger tanks to make it outta the cave, though ...
