Gross. . .what is it?
Ya, unacceptable I guess. But given that the whole country of Guatemala is 'unacceptable' in that shambolic third-world way, you might have some work ahead of you. The folks there just have different priorities... Belize or Costa are much nicer places to dive, and nicer places.

Agree with Jonn. Guatemala has no sewage treatment, undrinkable water and 50% of the people in the country heat their cooking stoves with wood. We (Canada and the US) have "gifted" them our "first world" product packaging that they have no way to dispose of, let alone recycle. It's a big job to turn this around.
