I have been wondering how many unmoored shipwrecks there are in Kingston. I know there wrecks like the montreal off cedar island does any one know of others? I am sure there literally 100's out there.

Here's a list of wrecks! Most not moored yet some not worth more than 1 dive.
Lots more out there.

wow just a few!! Thankyou for sharing. I love the fact Kingston has such a diverse maritime history. Now that Big Jim started it who else has some or has heard of some in the area not on this list? I am sure there are some out there. Anyone know of a French wreck so Kingston can predate the finding of the HMS Ontario by chance??? Or more britsh or American 1812 wrecks??? or anything at all??? I am sure they are all out there.

I am guessing that I should add shore dives on here too. These are the ones I know of as I am sure there are more out there.

marine musuem barge
cars off pump house
wreck off PUC dock
upper brewrs mills
brule rd quarry
cora post
nicholson point
deadmans bay princess charlotte and prince regent
navy bay
wolfe islander winter dock
kph
stacked hull and portsmouth olympic harbour
Domino theatre/ st lawrence

I think that is pretty much it. I am probably forgetting some or many in the area.

There are a lot more here in Kingston I just pasted a list I had here.......

This is a copy of another post I did explaining why we have so many wrecks here in Kingston

Many of the "wrecks" are hulks that were towed out and scuttled 1n 1925 and again in the 30's. Kingston was the home of many of the old sailing ships and when bigger faster steam ships came along, many of the old sailing ships became worthless. Many ship owners stripped what they could sell and left the hulls tied up in Kingston and walked away from them.

The city of Kingston wanted the old ships gone so they hired a company to get rid of them. They again stripped off anything that could be used or sold then towed them out and sunk them. This happened to over 50 old hulks.

SO....... Yes there are lots of "wrecks" out in the waters of Kingston but many of them are not worth more that one or two dives. Most Charter boat Captains will not take people out to wrecks like that. As a good charter wants his or her customers to see the best Kingston has to offer.

oh I agree with you about a lot of the shipwrecks in the Kingston area. I do have faith in all of the charter operators to make sure that I am enjoying myself on the wreck and time out to the wreck. I enjoy hearing about the coloured history of the wrecks in the area. Kingston has such diversity from war of 1812 ships to the more recent ships. I personally like to know where all the hulls are and looking into thir past but I must admitt I am not that good at the research side of it. I personally think the dive community should get together in Kingston and do something for the bicentenial of the war of 1812. It would be away to promote the sport city and give something back showcaseing the wrecks of the war during this period and what is left of them.

I forgot to add the Anglin Bay wrecks not very deepmore of a snorkel but there are about a dozen hulls mostly ribs now in the Bay... Has anyone dove along the causeway? Or by any chance know of the history behind the french ships sunk when the french lost the fort here?

That sounds like a good idea!

A suggestion: give this bickering a rest, eh? It's scaring the zebra mussels.

An alternative would be to open a sub-forum in the Pub for an all-Ontario-all-the-time bashing forum, that way the people who want to eat their popcorn can do it over there, and we can just dive Ontario in this forum.:14:
