Hello to everybody,
I know it is really hard to get information about Grand Bahama, sometime we do not even know which progresses are made.
From my little knowledge, parts of the island are still without power, however Port Lucaya is functional. Of the resorts hotels I know about: Westin closed till November 1st, Sheraton till October 15th, Pelican Bay is open, Island Seas Resort is open, Best Western is open. The International Bazaar with Royal Hoasis and the Casino are closed and we are not even sure when, if they will open.
Unexso and Carribean Divers dive centers are operational, yes Sun Odissey lost their two boats, Xanadu is closed till November 1st, the hotel next to the dive store received major damages as well. Not sure about the Club Fortuna resort and the dive center.
Restaurants and bar are open in Port Lucaya, bus service is working and so it the taxi service, there even some straw market stands open, but no hairbraiders, that should sound like a good news to all of you who like me do not like to be harassed all the time.
As for the underwater situation, well the reef were damaged, wrecks were moved and especially the Sea Star looks like it was hit by a bomb, Theo's is there, still intact moved about 8ft towards the ledge, no sharks around, not in the usual areas where you could always seen them, sponges are piled on the ocean floor, hard corals are fine, sand covers most everything, but visibility is good, currents are mild and the fish life is all over the place, much more then ever seen before.
Hope this little info helps,

Thanks for the update. I will try to report back with current info soon. I am headed down to Lucaya in a couple of weeks. Very excited. Trying to get my PADI cert (AOW) diving scheduled is difficult with Xanadu still closed and Sun Oddesy / Unexo not answering phone or email. I have my fingers crossed and will at least get some dives with Grand Bahama Scuba.
