Awesome. I did a tour of duty on a sister ship, another Spruance, the NICHOLSON (DD-982) as Combat Systems Officer from 2000-2001. I know a Spruance from stem to stern. The NICHOLSON decommissioned shortly after I left, and was sunk in 10000 plus feet of water. I would LOVE to dive another Spruance. Maybe I can set up some sort of gig where I can regale others with riveting sea-stories and technical data about the spruances in return for a free trip to the site! Well, my sea stories aren't that great, so maybe I'll have to settle for free Nitrox instead. Or a sandwhich. Or hell, someone just bothering to listen to one of my sea stories....

Anyone have any idea about the planned depth?

130-135fsw to the sand, maximum relief for a reefing in that area is 60fsw. Part of the cleaning proccess will involve sectioning part of the superstructure for heigth.

Thanks for the info Eric. Never been diving up that way. What's the vis usually like? I expect it would be similar to near shore VA Beach, usually 10-15 feet, green water. Sometimes we get lucky and the water is nice and blue with up to 40 foot vis, but those days are pleasant surprises.

Yep, that sounds about right. Sometimes better, sometimes closer to zero. Also expect a fair amount of current.

30 miles offshore!
Yeesh.
I like it better down here.
Less than a mile offshore to all the wrecks at 100' or less, and on a good day, I can kayak to them with other folks.
This being said..I hope you all have a great time getting to know your new toy.
I would love to see that sucker, but a little north, a little cold, a little lacking in viz, and I am an absolute spoiled brat on wreck dives for the most part.

Chug
Beach dives the Copenhagen lots and lots.
