You can thru MIA from PDX via DFW or LAX/SFO. But it's 2-3 connections both ways and overnight flights both ways. I'd call that difficult...

I meant at least 3-5 days diving. Trip could be longer. Maybe 7-9 days. Heck maybe longer as long as I can keep it cheap.
After further research:
Baja/Cabo/Loretto - looks cold with limited vis this time of year. I have been in the Fall and enjoyed it.
Bahamas - going to take at least a day or two to get there from Pacific Northwest
Costa Rica - has the chance for some big animals in the Catalina and/or Bat islands. Not sure about temps yet. I read that vis varies quite a bit.
Belize - loved it when I went before to Ambergris Caye. Placencia for the whale sharks seems like hit or miss.
Roatan/Utilla - looking better and better.
