Names --Very interesting !
I also am of German heritage - but don't recall Axel as a given name until grad school
The first few years of my life was in a small town called Vienna (VI - ANNA)
In grade school I attended Rheinlander and Caze grade schools and Reitz HS.
I can recall ever hearing the name Axel until years later in grad school.
I would question if it was a regional name -- my family's origin is primarily southern Germans - Bavaria
So interesting this modern world - three friends from three different countries discussing the origin of a name
