A friend of mine just got back from a dive trip and told me while scootering his Vytec read a psi of 5500 ! (He was diving Al80!!) Does the scooter have an effect on the transmitter of the Vytec? While diving without the scooter the Vytec worked well within the parameters of the dive.
Thanks for any info.

Hi Jeff,

My Vytec has done the same type of thing in my Zodiac when the outboard is running, so it makes sense that the electrical interference from the scooter could cause that. I've never noticed it while scootering, but I'm generally off the trigger when I'm checking my gas.

Have you informed Suunto of the problem? I have emailed them and get no response.
Is your problem when running the Zodiac just psi related or do you get "fail" or "Set C" readings?
Thanks

I am certain that the electrical interference of unshielded engines causes this problem.
I can't find the frequency of the transmitter in the booklet (which is weird), but the transmitter is a very weak one, it may have a range of 5 ft tops. That means that engines (electrical, or fuel - both have a pulsating electrical field) disrupt the signal.
It doesn't seem to be a very sophisticated (digital) signal.

The only thing that could be done is shield the engine. How? No idea... I am not an engine specialist. Maybe you could contact the dealer of the scooter... they may have a solution.

Regards,

Melle

i havent heard of this problem while scootering. the problem may be that its not syncing correctly and that can be an easy fix by sunnto. take it to your lds and they should be able to take care of it.

Hi Jeff,

Sorry for the late response, I was playing with Rebreathers in the pool this weekend and didn't see your post. :D

In my case, I typically just get bad pressure readings. This normally occurs after I have finished a dive, and my tanks are right next to the outboard and we are heading back to the ramp. I've often looked down at my Vytec and seen
pressures in 4000 - 5000 range, which I know are false and don't really concern me as they do not happen prior to or during a dive.

As Melle mentioned, I know its just the electrical interference from the motor. I get the same sort of problem in the summer with Jetski motors interfering with my Digital TV antenna at the house.
