Thursday July 8th 2010

Thursday we headed out to the Kathleen Riggins Wreck in Zone 2 with a full boat in calm seas and sunny skies. Hooked right in as usual and finally got a solid polly line from the stern of the wreck to the rubble pile 70 feet off the stern of the ship. Hopefully this one won’t get torn off by other boats trying to hook in to her. Surface vis was great around 30+ and bottom vis was 15-20. Temps are warming up still, mid 70s at the hang and mid 60s at the sand @ 55 feet.

Saw a large dead whale on the way back to the docks floating about 4-5 miles from the inlet. Wasn’t a pleasant smell… Saw what appeared to be some sharks swimming around the carcass and as we got closer to the whale you could see bite marks. The whale ended up washing ashore around 5th St OC and apparently was towed back to sea by the CG.

Sunday July 11th 2010 we headed back out to zone 2 to the KR. Temps were the same but bottom vis was down to 10-15 due to the large ground swell and storms we had rolling through the Mid-Atlantic here Friday and Saturday.
