Weekend trip to bahamas - help!

I live in Ft Lauderdale and want to go to the Bahamas for a weekend of diving. Any help is appreciated? Go with a resort or free-lance? Rent a car or take taxis? Any special dive shops?

Most likely going to Freeport.

Perhaps the easiest thing to do is to get a room in the Lucaya area. Take a taxi there, dive either with Unexso who is located in Lucaya, or have Xanadu or Grand Bahama Scuba pick you up. Note that GBS will return you to your hotel only after the afternoon trip returns, so if you choose not to do an afternoon trip with them you'll either have to wait or take a taxi. Figure a taxi will run $10-$20 each way. I've dove with Xanadu and enjoyed them very much.

You might want to rethink going to Freeport. While the wrecks are still nice the reefs are in sad shape. We were there Oct 8-15 and were very disappointed with the condition of the reefs.
If you do go; Grand Bahama Scuba is a great OP.
