A friend forwarded an email with pics of critters that washed up after the tsunami, and this one is unique (to me anyway). I've never seen anything like it.
Anybody know?

It looks like a Chimera (sp?), but those pics of animals that washed up on shore after the tsunami are a hoax. They stole some pics from a research site.

It is indeed a chimaera. Probably one kind of the family Rhinochimaeridae or longnose chimaeras, aka spookfishes. There are three genera (Rhinochimaera, Harriotta, and Neoharriotta) and perhaps six species. They can be found in deep waters of continental slopes and the bottom of most oceans. The post-tsunami “washed up creatures” e-mails are hoaxes. see below.

yeah... here's a page of purported weird fish washed ashore after the tsunami.
this one is listed as a "chimera pup:"

according to Archman, ace marine biologist, these are stolen pics from the
NORFANZ expedition:

and sure enough, here is this same picture at the NORFAZ site, called
a "Long-nosed chimaera pup:"

(scroll down halfway down or so)
