MikeFerrara once bubbled...
If the instructor doesn't like it he should take steps to avoid putting me and the student in that situation.

^5 Mike!

personally as a new dive master i want to thank you for helping, second did the instructor have any asistants or other dive masters if so where were they?
I think you did the right thing , with asissiting them if nothing else you could of monitored there air and and assist them to the surface, and there again by sharing your air just goes how a responable diver will help each other !!!!!!!!!
bless responsable divers they are what makes this a truly great sport !!!!!!!!

Close to 750 PSI is plenty of air. I would have monitored them, but shareing air is not necessary.

I think...maybe sharing air wasn't a necessity, but I think you did the right thing. IF it is what made you & the students you didn't know comfortable then that was the right thing. Who cares what the instructor thinks, he should have been there taking care of his students.

post processing analysis:

Students low on air....no instructor in immediate vicinity....

Nearby un-associated diver recognizes potential problem....takes active steps to avoid further danger

Potentially volitale situation avoided...thanks to intervention of a responsible individual

Just my $0.02

:) thanks for all the input. more so since i'll be taking the rescue diver class in a couple of days.

just to clean up on some questions here - we went out on the same boat and knew the person from work. also know for a fact that he's doing his first OW dive and he spoke of his high air consumption as well.

there were 3 students in the class so there was no assistant.

with hindsight, i would have done some things a bit different. that's the beauty of this board. you get to relive an experience, and use the feedback to run what-ifs for future reference.

once again, thanks.
