We have done 2 liveaboard trips out of Provo and a nice feature about staying on the island for an extra day or two is that you don't have to worry about the "wait to fly" rule - depending on your flight time - so you can enjoy the final dives off the boat without concern. Another nice thing is that you miss the crazy mayhem of trying to fly out on a Saturday. I have traveled from a lot of Caribbean airports and Provo on Saturday may be the worst IMO. But they were doing construction on the airport when we were there so it may be a little better now.

We were on the T&C aggressor in Oct 2013 and we arranged with Grace Bay Car Rentals to have a car waiting for us at the Marina when the boat docked on Friday afternoon and we had reservations at the Ports of Call hotel - even though we could have slept on the boat Friday night at no extra cost. We enjoy liveaboards but they are not the most comfortable accommodations, and we didn't want to be hustled off the boat early Saturday morning (after a hasty continental breakfast) so that we could hang around the marina or the airport with our luggage waiting for our flight. Been there and done that.

We did come back to the boat for the Friday night party which was fun, but it was nice to extend our vacation a little and go to a hotel with a big comfy bed and large bathroom/shower and spend a little more time in these beautiful islands.

The Ports of Call is fine for a couple of nights, it was (still is?) a Comfort Suites. The rooms are large, clean, air conditioned, and comfortable but it would be better if you could find a place on the beach because Grace Bay is an absolutely gorgeous beach. We are not big "beach people"; we make a point of staying away from the crowds and traffic of seven mile beach when we are on Grand Cayman; but Grace Bay Beach is something special.

But the Ports of Call is right in the middle of a good shopping area and near to several restaurants, so that's convenient if you don't want to rent a car and drive on the left side of the road - but that wasn't bad there are only a few main roads and not a lot of traffic. Don't stay at a hotel near the airport.

If you are staying for more than a couple of nights then I suggest a rental car and a kitchenette or apartment to prepare some simple meals because Provo is really expensive. We've stayed at the Royal West Indies and that was quite nice.
