I'm heading down to Aquarena for the Scientific Diver cert this weekend. I'm wondering if most people down there wear just a shorty or if they go with a 3 or 5 mil full? I think it's about 72F year round, and this seems like it might be cool for a shorty, but I'm not sure.

As always - it is a little bit of a personal choice..
How cold do you get?

Me when I am helping classes sitting in the training area - I like a little more - a 3/2 full with a 1.5 mill rash gaurd added under.. some times a little 1 mil hood just for a little extra

This time of year if I am doing diving for science planning to be under (all 20') for 1 hr to 1.5 hr the 3/2 full.

But if i remember right - diving for sceinces class dives were not that long and with 100+ heat i might just go with swim trunks and the rash guard..

Now one of my buddies - he is usally wearing a 5 mil full or his dry suit(in the winter).

Oh that 72 degree water sounds like heaven right now..

Wife and I wear 5mm. I am quite comfortable but she occasionally get a bit cold. 3mm may work but you would be pushing it on a couple 1+ hour dives.

I have worn 3mm, 5mm and drysuit, I can do the 3mm but I am cold after 1 hour. I usually wear a 5mm or drysuit. Diving there tomorrow :D

For years I used a good 3mm in the lake and was fine for around a hour. Now I wear a 5mm and the cold never affects me.

That being said, I have seen people dive with everything from a rash guard to dry suits with liners.

One thing's for sure, you will be covering it all with a lovely yellow jumpsuit thingie, so don't be worried about how anything looks. Because everyone looks really cool in the yellow. :D

I shudder to think about how many photos there are of me in a banana suit floating around. On the bright side, in 90% of them I with mask and regulator.
