We're staying at the Port Lucaya Resort for a couple of days, and I would like to know thoughts and comments from those who have stayed there. I am curious how close it is to the market (within walking distance???) and what there is to do nearby in Freeport that we shouldn't miss but can get to on foot or by taxi.

See http://portlucaya.com/

Lucaya is a cab ride away from Freeport.

I stayed there a couple years ago, it was a really nice upscale place. The market is about half a block away, east to get to, I ate there most night.

I dove with xanadu and really thought they did a nice job. I didn't spend anytime in freeport but it is definitely not in walking distance.

If this is the marina then I stayed there. Nice pool. Walking distance to the shops. Basically 100 yards away. UNEXSO is right there also. Across the street is another real nice place forgot the name though.

There's a large marketplace in Freeport - and the Casino. It's all a cab ride from Lucaya though - not walking. Or you could do either the dolphin or shark dives with UNEXSO.

Stay at the Westin.

Diving will be the main attraction for you.

The market is nice, I recommend Pisces restaurant and The Med restaurant.

I stayed at this hotel once. It was okay and was right next to the market and Unexso was about a 5 minute walk on the other side of the marina. Hotel had a neat ambiance with the boats around it. As for Freeport, there was not much else to do there. International Bazaar was a waste of time. Beach at the Sheraton was nice.

I stayed there in 2000, during spring break. It was AWFUL! Nothing against the resort, but it was overrun with high school and college kids who were out of control. We ended up spending most of our awake time across the street at the "Our Lucaya" resort....more upscale....above the "breaker budget".

Otherwise, the resort appeared like it would be a nice place any other time of the year. Walking distance to the market and several restaurants as well as UNEXSO.
