INFORMATION ON BLUE HA DIVING CENTRE, MAHAHUAL, COSTA MAYA, MEXICO.

My name is Tanya Hawthorne, Director of Blue Ha Diving Centre. We can certainly accommodate for you divers coming off all of the cruise ships which dock on the port in Costa Maya.
A little about us here - we dive on the local reef which is visible from the shore of Mahahual. This is the Meso-American Barrier Reef system, the largest Barrier Reef system in the Northern Hemisphere, which runs from north to south, in finger formations - creating lots of canyons and swim throughs!! We have a range of sites we choose from each day, depending on diver experience, desired depth, local conditions, etc. Because the reef is so close to the shore - no more than a 10 minute boat ride, we come back to the centre for our surface intervals.
Our dive times are 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm so for a two tank dive, we suggest the 10am for your first dive. This way, you will dive at 10am and 12pm and be finished and out of here by 1.30pm - plenty of time to spare! We ask you to arrive 30 minutes before your first dive time to help us keep on schedule. (Note: local time often differs from ship time - please check).
A two tank dive costs $70usd per person (which includes tank and weights), plus $10usd full equipment rental if needed. A $1usd contribution per person is also required for the Recompression Chamber Fund. We can only accept payment in cash on arrival. We accept US dollars.
Hope this helps, you can always get more information at www.bluehadiving.com. We accept bookings online, which secure your spot for the day. My email address is dreamtimetanya@hotmail.com

I just wanted to post a quick report before I go ashore in cozumel this morning. Tanya and Jono were great. They took excellent care of me and I had a great time for my first saltwater dives. I took a few pics while I was there but will post them once I get home with a complete dive report. Needles to say if you are in Costa Maya I would highly recommend them. Since my cruise has turned out better than the first couple of days I may sail the Rhapsody of the seas again and hope we come back to costa maya.

Thanks for a great time Tanya and Jono. Hope to see you again soon.

you will be very pleased to dive with them as they do a great job. jono did a very good job taking care of brenda on here first blue water dives. she was very confortable with the situation she saw there and had no hesitation to follow jono where ever he went. we would not hesitate to recomend them to anyone interested in diving in mahahual. we even told the people on the ship that they needed to get set up with them for some shore excursion dives.

i am glad your trip is getting better. we have several relatives that have taken cruises on rhapsody and they were the ones to recommend that ship to us as they liked it better than any of the other cruises that they had taken. the only disappointment was that we were looking forward to the midnight chocolate buffet as we were told that the pastry chefs went all out on it but it had been cancelled. we will take another cruise on the rhaposdy if we can figure out how to fit it in.

I don't think I will be back on the rhapsody. While overall the cruise got better, our room steward was never around and the last three days didn't even make the beds till lunchtime. The pizza and burgers at the solarium were cold and the last night right at dinner time these guys came up and just started stacking the chairs against the wall without letting anyone know what they were doing. They closed the whole smoking side of the ship down. Ok so I'll go smoke at the bar while I wait for the buffet to open. No go, they came sloshing their cleaning solution on the deck and so we had to leave there too. Ok go to the non smoking side since I really want to eat outside one more time. Went in to get the food for mom and I and when I come back they are putting up the chairs on that side too! I made up my mind though that we were going to eat our dinner then we would leave. Couldn't believe they did this at dinner time and didn't tell us they intended to close the whole deck. As for our room, I just decided we could expect motel 6 service there and no better. That's about what we got.

The dive excursion in cozumel was great. More on that in another post probably tomorrow.

We just got back from an early November cruise that stopped in Costa Maya. We dove with Tanya (Blue Ha) and I could definitely recommend them. Unfortunately, the water was very rough the day we were there, but from everything I hear this was very unusual. They run an excellent and professional dive operation, especially considering the area of Costa Maya is not very developed. Blue Ha is a fairly new dive center, and is therefore going through a few growing pains, but that should not at all keep you from diving with them. We are already planning on going back to them in May with another cruise group that we are leading.

I would however highly recommend extreme caution with OTHER dive centers there (actually I would suggest run . . very fast . . away from them). We got to know one of the excursion specialists on our cruise, who was also a dive instructor. He took a small group to the dive center that has a booth just inside the cruise port in Costa Maya. He came out furious. They put a rope behind the boat, had the divers hold onto it, then took off, dragging the divers and pulling them under. Very dangerous. Considering how small Costa Maya is (and thus how few shops there are), I would ONLY dive with Tanya at Blue Ha for safety reasons.
