Hi everyone,

Could you please help me with a bit more info about this SMB:

20151006_162213.jpg

From what I can tell it is an open circuit SMB because after I've inflated it, the air escapes if it falls over.

However if it is an open circuit SMB then why does it have a OPV?

There is no other way to inflate it apart from the opening at the bottom.

Is this SMB supposed to stay inflated on the surface?

Thanks.

I had the same, replaced it with a closed one. The SMB does not hold the air inside at the surface UNSLESS you keep the opening under the water by pulling it down. Not a good design :).

Thanks :) I have already replaced it with a semi-closed circuit one. I just thought I was missing something or had a faulty device.

You are missing nothing. As per freewillow, I too owned one a few years back but sold it and too bought the smaller 3ft closed one. That one is "ok" but being open you need to hold the bottom end under water or as you discovered the air will escape and flaccid it will become.

+1 Sold it and replaced it with the closed version.

I see a lot of different versions of SMBs (many in my closet :) ) and IMHO Halcyon has the best design.

I love my closed 6' halcyon dsmb - I shoot it on every dive even if it's not needed just because it's fun. The metal mouth piece is super awesome as well.
