The Roatan Marine Park is a local non-profit, NGO, US 501(c)3 that works tirelessly to protect Roatan and its reefs.
They are raffling off a one week stay in five luxury properties in West Bay and West End. Two of the properties are in Mangrove Dock. One is the ground floor unit where you stayed; the second is the Penthouse unit which has stunning ocean views. The other properties are Coral Vistas (the big white houses on the rocks overlooking Half Moon Bay), Monkey Lala House in West Bay Village (the yellow houses just next to Infinity Bay), and Grand Roatan Resort in West Bay.
They are only selling 150 tickets at $100 each. The drawing will happen once all tickets are sold or at the end of April. All proceeds will go towards helping the Roatan Marine Park conserve our fragile reefs.
I know the tickets aren't cheap. But the prizes are spectacular. Some of the properties rent for over $4000 / week. And it is for a great cause. The difference in the reef from before the RMP existed to today is remarkable.
For those underwater photographers out there, Caribbean Reef Life is donating a one day underwater photo course as well.
The RMP runs numerous programs including recycling, patrols to prevent poaching on the reefs, environmental education classes in the schools, installation of dive moorings and marine infrastructure, alternative livelihood programs for locals so they can earn a living doing something other than poaching, training of tour guides and tourism stakeholders, and many more.
The Roatan Marine Park is a US 501(c)3 so you can call the purchase a donation and deduct it from your taxes.
Tickets may be purchased via Paypal or credit card.
